My name is Tom Haymer, and I am a final year trainee studying MA Dramatherapy at Anglia Ruskin University.

I am seeking participants to interview for my major research project. I was wondering if you had a notice board or you could circle my email around to your colleagues please. 

Between Hiding and Being Seen: An exploration into the Comic Role as Mask and Pathway in Dramatherapy

My research aims to explore how dramatherapist experience and understand the comic role in their therapeutic practice, and how it may function both as a protective mask and as a pathway to authentic emotional expression.

I would like to invite qualified dramatherapist who have experience of working with humour, comedy or the comic role in their Dramatherapy practice to take part in individual semi-structured interviews.

Inclusion criteria:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Qualified Dramatherapist who are HCPC registered
  • Experience of working with humour, comedy or the comic role in dramatherapy
  • Willing to reflect on and discuss professional experiences in an interview lasting approximately 45 minutes

Exclusion criteria:

  • Individuals who are currently in a therapeutic, supervisory or teaching relationship with me
  • Individuals who may find discussion of the topic significantly distressing at this time

Interviews will take place between February – April 2026 online (via a secure video platform, Microsoft Teams.)
