We are proud to launch a new, collaborative Clinical Career Framework for Art, Music, and Drama Therapists.
Developed in partnership with the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT) and the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT), this framework is an essential resource designed to support and champion our valuable, and often underutilised, workforce.
What is the Framework?
Co-created by and for art, drama, and music therapists, this framework clearly maps the skills, competencies, and attributes of arts therapy professionals at different stages of their careers.
The primary aim of this project was to collaboratively develop a clear resource that helps both therapists and employers better understand how skills and knowledge evolve across a career in these three professions.
We hope the framework will enable practitioners—from pre-registration to post-registration levels—to achieve their potential in ways that fit their evolving aspirations and circumstances.
Key Focus
The current framework focuses on clinical levels of practice only. While arts therapists often work in management and strategic roles, these require a different skill set than those included here.
This framework is a living document and will continue to evolve, influenced by changes in regulation, government policy, and the professional standards and codes of practice relating to all three professions.
Highlighting Career Stories
To bring the framework to life, we're pleased to launch three short films featuring arts therapists sharing their personal insights and experiences. We hope their stories will inspire and guide others as they navigate their own professional journeys.
Acknowledgements and Funding
Our sincere thanks go to everyone who contributed to the development of this framework, especially the Project Steering Group and the many art, drama, and music therapists who provided creative case studies and films.
